Ontario is in a period of rising income inequality; many people feel like the system is rigged against them and the rich are getting richer while everyone else is struggling just to get by.
There is a high degree of cynicism towards politicians and institutions, and an animosity towards big corporations that are ripping people off.
People want representatives who listen to them and work for them rather than for corporate interests. However, politicians and political candidates need to prove to them that they’re not just like other untrustworthy elected officials.
